Oh the Sweetness of a Sleeping Baby | Clarksville TN Newborn and Baby Photographer

I just love sleeping babies! There is nothing like it. They just look so sweet and peaceful!

Staring into an image of a sleeping baby is very soothing...here is an image I captured today of my little one while he napped.

The only light used was the soft, yummy window light spilling in from across the room. No reflector, no studio light, no flash.

I just wanted to share these with you and hope that maybe you will be inspired to capture one of the sweetest moments there is of your own children. A sleeping moment. It is moments like these that go so quickly and we will never have them back again...except in images.

What is Lifestyle Photography??

Lifestyle photography is more of a candid style or photojournalistic style of photography. In lifestyle photography the intent is not to capture a nicely posed portrait (although in a lifestyle session I will also include a couple of these because who doesn't want a nice picture of the family?) but the intention is to record and capture genuine moments between family members or of an individual. A lifestyle session is held usually at your home or a place your family likes to go. We capture moments with your family doing things you like to do together such as playing a board game, fishing, playing at the park, special moments of momma singing to baby in the baby's nursery, dad tossing brother in the air or having a tea party with his daughter....the ideas are endless. Thye point is to capture the relationships and bonds you have on camera to keep and treasure for all time.
Sure I love sessions with props and nicely posed portraits. Those are always needed and have their place but lifestyle sessions record life as you know it right now. It captures the bond between a couple or a parent and child. They wont be little for long so why not have those special moments artistically and professionally captured to always help you remember those times.

Newborn Love | Clarksville tn newborn and baby photographer

I love newborn sessions! This particular session was special to me though. Momma had contacted me about doing this session which was originally planned for January. She was due around the same time as I was(literally within a couple days) so we were going to work around both births. Well my baby came 4 weeks early....and so did hers! This sweet baby girl was born one day after my son was born! We were Facebook-ing each other while in the hospital! I had such a wonderful time with her during the session and big (2yr old) brother wanted to help out so bad and wanted to keep an eye on what I was doing with his baby sister to make sure she was ok. It was so cute!

I am so excited about these! I originally had my hubby build this stand for some minis we will be doing this summer (so stay tuned for those) but when I got the idea for a kissing booth I just couldn't resist! So here they are...our valentine "Kissing Booth" minis. I have done a few of these sessions already and they are just super cute!!

There are two packages to choose from:

Introducing Our SLR Mommas Photography Class | Clarksville, TN Photographer

I am so excited to announce that we are now offering photography classes for those that would like to learn how to take better pictures and how to use all those settings on your fancy SLR camera. Ever wondered what all those buttons were for? Want to improve your picture taking skills when photographing your kids in their everyday life? Well I am here to help. When I started out in photography it was when I first started having kids. My son had so much energy and he was either running or sleeping. There was no in between with him! Well I loved the challenge of getting a great picture despite his non cooperation. I loved experimenting with different angles and ways to shoot ...and that was the beginning of my photographic journey.

SLR Mommas

SLR Mommas is a beginners class where you will learn how to use your camera as well as learn some tips and principles to better picture taking. The class is designed to help you in your everyday picture taking, give you a better understanding of your camera and of what makes a good picture.

*This class is not designed to make you a professional photographer.*

What is included

*Approximately 2-3 hours of instruction including

hands on learning time with real child models

*a manual of the course for later reference

*Q&A time

*lots of fun!

Things we will learn:

How to use the camera settings as well as which settings are ideal in various situations

Principles of photography such as perspective, composition, the "rule of thirds" & more.

A general understanding of what aperture, shutter and ISO is.

How to capture great moments of our kids being kids and pictures that are meaningful, not just telling them to stop, sit down and smile.

...and finally

Classes will be limited to 5 people so I can give everyone more direct one on one attention. Classes are first come first serve. You may take more than one class if you like. classes are $75 each

**Participants will be required to sign a 1 year non compete form stating they will not open a photography business within 60 miles of clarksville. Thank you for understanding. I do offer Photographer mentoring sessions for professionals and those looking to start a photography business. Email me for details.

It is recommended to have an SLR camera since we will be covering settings for SLR's but most point and shoots now have similar features and should be fine.

Today I got to go out with a fellow photographer friend of mine and we played around with headshots. I think as a photographer it is good to get in front of the camera once in a while. It really puts the clients point of view into perspective and I think there is so much us photographers can learn just from being on the other side of a camera sometimes. I just love engagement sessions. Besides newborn sessions and weddings, my other passion is couples. I just love engaged couples! They are so fun to photograph and they express such emotion in the relationship which makes it easy to capture in photographs. This particular couple was a lot of fun! I just love when my clients are willing to step out of the box and allow me to take them on an adventure so to speak in the session. I love to experiment and try new things. Now don't get me wrong, I do love and appreciate the importance of traditional portraits and I like to include some of the more traditional in each session as well as fun and new. I think both are just as important to photography and each brings balance to an image and to photography itself.

I'm back! I know, I know...I have not been a very good blogger lately. You may also be wondering who this super cute baby belongs to. Well, after a very, very busy fall and Christmas photography season I was getting ready to relax and spend some time with my family and even put up some new blog posts....and then....Our beautiful baby boy decided to come 4 weeks early on December 21st...just in time for Christmas! So now I am finally settled and back to blogging. I just wanted to announce our baby's arrival and let you all know I have not fallen off the face of the earth. I am still here and we are back into the swing of things. I am also enjoying my new baby and also loving the opportunity to do my own baby's newborn pictures. It is so important to have some great heirloom images of your baby to cherish forever and for me, It is an honor to be able to create those images of my child myself.

Urban sessions are great sessions for Christmas portraits. Held in historic downtown Clarksville there are many locations to have unique sessions with a lot of variety. Urban sessions are non-seasonal so they will look great hanging on your walls year round and we can also get some very Christmassy images as well while it is decorated for the holidays. Get a portrait with the huge Christmas tree outside the courthouse in the background and then get some non-seasonal images as well if desired. Christmas sessions can be all holiday themed or part.

Mini Session Details:

Mini session is a 30 minute session and you can choose from an urban family or childrens session ( to be held in some of our many locations in historic downtown Clarksville) or a studio childrens session. Mini sessions spots are limited. No session fee for mini sessions. Package payment is due at time of the session.

Two packages to choose from:

$99- includes session , at least 10 images in a private online gallery to choose from, 5 images on CD with print release for unlimited printing and 10 holiday flat photo cards

$150- includes session, at least 10 images in a private online gallery to choose from, 8 images on CD with print release for unlimited printing and 25 of our new boutique cards!!

Important Studio Updates

Just A Couple of Important Updates

Studio Transition: We have outgrown our studio!! We are now in the process of transitioning into a new studio. We have been moving the studio out of the former building and we are in the process of finding something bigger and one that will be a perfect fit for us and our clients. We can't wait to find the new spot. We have several we are looking at. The new studio will be so much better and comfortable for everyone. Thank you for your patience during this time and no worries...I will still be able to do studio sessions and all other sessions the same as always. Fortunately this is a business that is more flexible when it comes to location.

A New Addition: If you have not heard yet, We are expecting a new baby boy this January! Dave and I are so excited! Of course I will probably bombard you with lots of images of him :)
I have been receiving quite a few questions about if I will be taking time off from photography when our little bundle comes. We will not be closing. In general, the studio slows down some in January and February to a comfortable pace already and I am blessed to have a husband that helps out and is able to be with the baby if I need to go to a photoshoot as well as my teenagers and their friends who would love to cuddle my baby while I shoot pictures. So I will most likely be taking it easy the last half of January and the beginning of February but will not completely be closed for business.

New Life... Captured

Well, things have been busy for us here at the studio. I have been blessed with quite a few maternity and newborn sessions as well as Fall portraits are in full swing! I try hard to keep up on the blog here but sometimes it is just more important to get the photos processed and there's not much time to play.

Santa sessions booked up very fast this year! I do still have some non-Santa Christmas themed session spots available in the mornings of the Santa sessions before Santa gets there. These will use the same packages but are designed for those that may not want Santa pictures or whose children are not too fond of sitting on St Nick's lap.

Our Christmas card collection will be available soon. We will have favorite designs from last year and some new ones too!

I am still booking fall sessions and now holiday sessions also for November. Catch the fall leaves at the beginning of the month or take advantage of our great downtown spots for some fun urban shots. There are so many possibilities available downtown for some original and unique portraits!

We will also be transitioning into a new studio location over the next few months so please bear with us. This transition will NOT affect our availability for sessions or our ability for studio/indoor sessions.

Summertime!! {Clarksville TN Baby Photographer}

This little guy is about to turn two years old and was so full of great energy! He was such a cutie! Mom and Dad and I really got a workout keeping up with him but it was worth it! At this age, especially with boys or very active toddlers, outdoor portrait sessions tend to work best. I prefer outdoors simply because the background is real, not painted, and I find that especially the children are more relaxed and comfortable. The more comfortable you are, the better the pictures will turn out. An outdoor session with me can turn into an adventure. I have even been known to climb into the water myself to capture a great, memorable image!

Another Wonderful Wedding! {Clarksville TN Wedding Photographer}

This past weekend I had the privilege of photographing another great wedding! This bride and groom are so much fun! I believe the officiant even described them as a "spirited couple" during the ceremony. It was cloudy and drizzling and the ceremony had to be moved indoors but they didn't let that stop them from enjoying their wedding and making it fun and amazing!

Well wedding season is in full swing and I am having a wonderful time! I just love weddings! I love capturing those special memories of a very special day. I love the artistic expression that can be acheived from a wedding and I adore the documentary style of photography or "Wedding Photojournalism" as it is better known. Well, I have really been enjoying the sunny weather lately. Of course as I type this today it has cooled some and is raining but overall in general the weather has been nicer and things are getting green again! It is a great time of year for portraits and I just love watching babies explore and discover the grass, leaves and wind! Miss {B} had a great time exploring during this her 9 month session. She was amazed by the grass and slightly surprised when a breeze would blow across her face. I just love this little girl! Last Saturday was such a fun day! Mr Wiggles and a few of his friends came to visit for some very special portrait sessions. Each year we do portraits with a bunny and these are some of our most favorite sessions. Well, this year I really wanted to do baby chicks but I also know that my clients love the bunny so...instead of making them choose I decided to do the bunny and chicks together. It was a lot of fun, the chicks were a big hit with the kids as well as the grown ups and Mr Wiggles, the bunny was so great!

I want to send a big thank you to my friends Chris & Scarlett Rinehart, owners of Riverview Mounds Century Farm for letting Mr Wiggles come to play with us! I love seeing the kids' faces light up when they sit next to the bunny and the little girls just wanted to take the chicks home with them. I had the privilege of meeting these 4 wonderful kids for a very fun photo session. They were all very friendly, talkative and so great to photograph.The youngest, 3 year old Mr {A}, decided he didn't want his picture taken at first but quickly warmed up and even asked to go back to the park later that day so I could take pictures again. The other Mr {A}, the oldest, has autism and he is just one of the greatest kids you could ever meet! He has such a warm smile and he just melts your heart along with his very special friend, baby triceratops, who joined us for some pictures as well. Announcing our Live bunny and baby chicks mini sessions featuring the famous bunny "Mr Wiggles" from Riverview Mounds Farm!

Mr Wiggles will be featured on the Lifetime channel in the show"Coming Home" in March which filmed an episode at the farm and featured Mr Wiggles! We are so excited to have him in the studio along with a couple of his baby chick friends!

Bunny sessions are on Saturday, March 26th from 12-4. Spots are limited so they must be pre-booked.

This wedding couple was a lot of fun to photograph. They had a small ceremony at their house and then we met at Dunbar Cave park for some wedding portraits. Weddings are beautiful events to photograph and I just love happy newlywed couples We had a great time and I think that we got some good shots even though it is still wintry out and not very green at all. You may remember this pretty little thing from a few posts back. She was the one on the pink couch in the pink and black tutu. I just wanted to share a few more images from her 3 month baby portrait session. I just love portrait sessions with cute babies! 3 months is a sweet age to photograph just like newborns also. I am sure you will think these portraits are as adorable as I think they are.

Recently I had the privilege of photographing one of my "first year" babies. We have a package that encompasses the entire first year milestones in photographs and this precious one is one of my favorites! She came in for her 6 month baby portrait session and I can't believe how much she has changed in only 3 months!! She is super sweet and just so adorable!
